Lucky Duck

Only a few short weeks ago, I found this chair abandoned on the side of the road. It was bathed in orange fabric, but only needed a little imagination to see its potential.

So, for my birthday I asked my mom to help me reupholster it. I went and picked out some new fabric, kind of gold with a squiggly pattern. Carl helped me load it into the fit and I hauled it up to the Valley.

Unfortunately, about half way there I realized that I forgot that gold fabric and needed to make a detour to the fabric store to buy a replacement. For reasons that I cannot comprehend, a shiny sea foam green velvet fabric spoke to me and my new chair was born.

It took 3 days, one sprained thumb, a dozen accidental needle pokes, and a box of staples to make it happen. Even though I made a few mistakes along the way that had to be redone, I still consider myself a lucky duck to have an awesome new chair and a talented mom. Happy 28th Birthday to me!

BBQ or Bust

I was in Memphis this past week for a conference. Despite the incredible heat, I had a really great time. I ate some amazing BBQ, went to Graceland, and stomped around Beale St. The conference was an experience too; it was my first time being a presenter. Luckily I was co-presenting with Jeff and people seemed to enjoy the session.

One of the coolest aspects was the historic trolley that runs through downtown Memphis. It was a great way to get around and they are open air trolleys, so you could hang your head out to feel the breeze.
