The short version

I want to get out of the habit of just posting a video that I think is funny, but this time I couldn't help it. Enjoy the funny.

Katherin now endorsing: Boots

I have officially changed my opinion regarding winter boots. When I was little I refused to wear boots, probably because they "didn't feel good." I would stand next to the school building during recess because the teachers wouldn't let you play in the snow without boots on. Not that I really minded because I hated snow too. The first snow fall of this winter I trudged through the snow to visit a patient and got a long overdue stern talking-to about my lack of appropriate foot wear. The next day I purchased my first pair of boots, which are highly practical and acceptably fashionable. Not that they will ever compare to moon boots, but my boots are certainly comfortable. I would say they are like itawas (aka flip-flops), but in the winter. Be good to your feet!

Obama energizes 17,000+Katherin, Carl, and Katie at Kohl Center

In a twist of events, Katie calls Carl and I up and invites us to join her at the Barack Obama rally this evening. At first, the lazy part of my brain spoke up... "nah, I don't think I want to go... don't politicians always say the same thing?" Then, after some thought, the curious side of my brain took over and made me realize I would be missing a really neat opportunity. So, I say, "sure, let's do it."

The crowds were crazy, with a childlike eagerness and impatience as if waiting for Santa. We were cold, but exhilarated. After 45 minutes outside in line, we proved our commitment and made it through the doors. We found seats on the second level, behind the speaking platform. There was an energy in the room that was contagious. Before long, the U Dubbers were running the wave just like at a foot ball game.

We patiently wait for Governor Doyle to take the stage. His introduction was sincere and inspiring and established his support for Obama for president.

Listening to Obama speak is an experience that few words can describe. His prose are elegant and his message is clear. I was moved by his dedication to his cause and for the first time in 8 years, have felt inspired to be the change I want to see in the word! (Ghandi)

His secondary message about hope also connect to me in a strong way. I have hopes for my self and family, but also in my job. I teach patients techniques to find and hold on to hope. Teaching them, that in the face of death, you never have to give up hope, only reframe your hope. No one should ever have hope taken away from them, on any level, from the individual, to the workplace, or the whitehouse.

Thanks Katie and Carl, for taking me with!

Happy First Birthday, Leif

Leif celebrated his 365 day achievement with his favorite books and some fun Mama and Papa time. And little snowshoeing and horsin' around as usual. Then, today Eron and Leif took off for a week in sunny Coba San Lucus. I hope your next year is awesome and filled with lots of love and visits from all the people who love you! Can't wait to see you again, Leifers!

Rockstars Final Show

A busy night at the Wicked Hop Ale House set the mood for Buzz and Carl's last performance together. The band we have grown to love over the last four years decided to pack up the act this January. Fortunately, the fans were honored to get one last rockin' show at the ale house in the Third Ward of Milwaukee. The crowd was enthusiastic and the musicians gave it their all. Of the many fans that made it to the show, we all share a special bond, admiring the band for what they have become. I was sad to hear those songs for the last time live and so I can only imagine how it felt to play them.

And, my last two cents: Carl, I have been with you from the beginning, listening to band practices in the basement. I loved listening to the musicial process and watching where that would unfold. You were a group of highly talented musicians that made some really excellent music together. Your sound and talents will be missed.
