Excitement finds Buzz Meade (and Carl)

I am totally excited beyond belief to tell you that Carl and Buzz will be on TV next week. Here's the scoop (from what I know).
Backstory:
Carl's in a band. The lead singer/songwriter/guitar playing dude is Buzz Meade. He is joined by his band, Carl on Violin, Josh Freymiller on drums, and Dave Geschke on bass. They play often and everywhere and are pretty serious about making this band really great. Their most recent gig was at The Rave in Milwaukee, which was an awesome show! Playing the Rave is actually a pretty big deal, for instance, the last band I saw there was the Smashing Pumpkins. The moral of all this info is that they have been finding all kinds of different ways to get their name and sound heard.
How to get your face and music on TV (Course #101):
Step One:
Buzz found info regarding a contest being put on by the CBS Early Show.
Step Two:
The contest consists of making a video playing one song from your living room.
Step Three:
Carl and Buzz made an awesome video recording of their tune "Girl from the West Coast"
Step Four:
Carl forgets that he did this on sunday and doesn't mention it to anyone.
Step Five:
Carl gets a call from Buzz saying that they WON the first phase of the process and their video will be played during the CBS Early Show on Monday 8/28/06 between 7am-9am.
Step Six:
To make it to the next phase of the contest, Carl and Buzz need our votes. Voting closes on Wednesday 8/30.
Can you believe our Carl is going to be on TV? It's just so amazing. I think Carl's still in shock a little.
To Conclude:
Watch the CBS Early Show, Monday 8/28 7am-9am.
Vote on the CBS website to help Carl and Buzz Make it to the next level.
Cross your fingers!
Vote early - Vote Often

So Long, and Thanks for all the Fish
And so it was written, that on the sixteenth day of the eighth month, in the year of our Lord Two Thousand and Six, our great white Volvo passed from this green Earth. And while the crumpled corpse of this great machine will be placed to rest in an unknown junkyard, your spirit will ascend to a greater plane, free of oil changes and rush hour. Free from snowy days and speed limits. A place where your sun roof may always be open and your radio always gets reception. And although our time together was brief, there will never be another first car to me than you.
So long, dear friend, so long.

Rough Night
Carl and I came home last night and found this note. Justin's not hung over, he's just exhausted from a night of drinking.

The poop hits the pan
I got the coolest new toy! The litter-robot is an automatic cat litter box and is one of the most highly recommended on the market. It's amazing to watch in action, but more importantly the cats love it too. It's kinda hard to explain how it works because it's actually quite complex, so if you're curious, check out the demo on The Litter-Robot website.

This 3 minute popcorn is for you, Grandpa

About this time 8 years ago I was working at Deb’s Country Inn washing dishes when I found out that my grandpa had died. It’s strange after someone dies, because you want to remember everything about them, but each day a little detail slips from your mind without you even knowing it. If I close my eyes and concentrate, even though I can’t remember his voice, I can remember his humming. He was always humming and singing while he worked, drove, danced, or did just about anything else. He and my grandma had this cool camper that was just the right size for a couple of grandkids and fishing poles. But, after grandpa died, the camper got sold and the non-bolted down furnishings were given to whom ever could use them. So, as a girl about to live in a dorm, a microwave seemed like a great memento. Even though grandma and grandpa had this microwave for a few years, they left all the plastic coating on (the stuff you’re supposed to remove before use), so when it came to me, it was in near perfect condition. It was quite a hit in the dorms--I’ve been quoted saying, “Me and Kimmie just love this microwave.” It moved to 4 other apartments before moving to Carl and my first home. I wouldn’t be writing this post, had the microwave not stuck on and boiled the heck out of my coffee, leading me to think that it might be time for an upgrade. Judging by the photo above, I bet you could guess they just don’t make ‘em like they used to. For my birthday, Carl bought me a real fancy-shmancy 1200 watt, browning microwave. I’m having a hard time adjusting because grandpa’s microwave was only 500 watts. The salesmen got kind of annoyed with me when I kept asking for less features, more basic functions, and dials. I finally realized it might be better to jump into the year 2006 and get a fancy microwave because the beauty and simplicity of my old microwave couldn’t be replaced.
The moral of the story is:
A microwave seems like a silly thing to become attached to, because it is. But grandpas, especially the really awesome ones, are good things to be attached to.
Thanks,
-Kath
